It's Razor Season!

It's been a record year for razor clamming along the Washington and Oregon coasts and if all goes well, the season will continue through next month. Make sure you check for closures in your area before heading out and read about shellfish safety and Harmful Algal Blooms on the NANOOS HABs information page.

A Cruise in Pictures

A student volunteer and marine tech deploy the CTD from R/V Barnes in Admiralty Inlet.
The CTD just below the surface before being lowered to depth... it is NOT usually this calm in Admiralty Inlet.
Volunteers retrieve the CTD and guide it on deck of the R/V Barnes.
Prepping one of the plankton nets for a vertical tow.

Rinsing the bongo net before bringing it back aboard to capture all organisms in the cod ends.

Plankton from the bongo net preserved in formalin.

Passing the Oceanic Remote Chemical Analyzer (ORCA) Hoodsport buoy in Hood Canal.

Smiles from the team of volunteers mid-cruise.

R/V Barnes docked at Alderbrook in lower Hood Canal.
